How to Write Newsworthy Articles

News

News is any information about current events, which may be provided by a variety of media. These include print, radio, television and the Internet.

Often, the first time that someone hears about something is through the news. This is called “hard” or “breaking” news.

When writing a news article, it’s important to include all the facts. Make sure all the information is accurate and attributed to the sources that provided it.

Use the first person in your articles, unless there’s good reason to use the second or third person. Always write out the full name or initials of people whose names appear in your articles.

If possible, use an image in your news story to grab attention and add a visual element. This is best practice on the Web.

Start your piece with a strong lede that grabs attention and makes the reader want to read on. Then list all the main facts that you want to include in your article.

Then follow up with any additional information that will help the reader learn more about the subject matter or the people involved in it. This will help round out your article and provide a smooth transition to new points.

It’s also a good idea to include an opinion statement that will allow the reader to get a sense of your own views. This can be done by interviewing someone who holds an opposing view or using a quote from a public statement that is relevant to your article.
